Love. So basic and assumed, yet more complex than we'd ever imagine until we immerse ourselves in it and taste the fruit ourselves. But really. What is love?
If you really love someone, no matter what happens around you, no matter what you have to go through to be there for them, you will cherish them with every bit of your being. It's the willing commitment in your heart to do whatever you can to help them through their troubles, always being that person they can go to for anything in the world, the person who will care for them despite their darkest secrets and deeds. It's adoration and trust, faith and loyalty. When you feel it, really feel "true love"...you'll know.
..And the feeling can't really be erased or forgotten...it's like a drawing you start in a dark pencil, pressing hard. If you have to change the drawing, no matter what you put over it with that pencil, the little white lines show through as battlewounds on paper bearing testimony to bonds that are steadfast and unbreakable within you.

Then again, I'm still searching to find what love really is for myself, too...
but that's what I've got so far.
